Pole Barn Construction Part 1 Setting Posts Useful Knowledge

Introduction

Hey there, this is Jamie with Useful Knowledge. Today, I want to share with you a project I worked on with my son Dalton where we set up a pole barn using two moose and extremely heavy 6×6 sixteen Timbers. We were faced with the challenge of setting these timbers in the ground by ourselves, but with some creativity and help from our friend Mark at Useful Knowledge, we found a solution using a tractor. In this blog post, I’ll show you how you can set 6×16 timbers in the ground to build a pole barn.

Setting Up the Forklift

What we did was put a pallet on our forklift attached to the tractor. The forklift had 60-inch Forks, allowing us to have a foot of space to mount the 6×6 timber for lifting. To lift the timber, we inserted a nail about three to four feet down from the top, which we used to secure a strap for lifting.

Setting the Timber in the Ground

With the timber secured on the pallet attached to the forklift, we were able to position it in the ground. This method made setting the heavy 6×6 timber much more manageable and efficient.

Completing the Setup

After successfully setting the 6×6 16 timber in the ground, we were one step closer to building our pole barn. This method not only made the task easier but also showcased the importance of creative problem-solving in construction projects.

Hey everyone, thanks for watching how we set up a 6×6 16 timber for our pole barn. Stay tuned for more videos documenting the building process. Also, I’d like you to meet my son Dalton, who is a talented blacksmith. We’ll be sharing videos of his blacksmithing projects in the future, so be sure to watch out for those!

**Related Questions:**

1. **How did you come up with the idea of using a tractor to set the 6×6 timbers in the ground?**
– We got the idea from our friend Mark at Useful Knowledge, who suggested using a tractor with a pallet on the forklift to lift and position the heavy timbers effectively.

2. **Why is it important to secure the timber with a nail before lifting it with a strap?**
– Securing the timber with a nail ensures that the strap stays in place during the lifting process, providing stability and safety.

3. **What role did the forklift play in setting up the timbers for the pole barn?**
– The forklift attached to the tractor with a pallet provided a stable platform for lifting and positioning the heavy 6×6 timbers in the ground.

4. **What are the advantages of using a tractor and forklift in construction projects like building a pole barn?**
– Using a tractor and forklift can make handling heavy materials easier, increase efficiency, and reduce the physical strain on workers.

5. **Can you tell us more about the upcoming blacksmithing videos with your son Dalton?**
– Dalton is a skilled blacksmith, and we plan to showcase his talent by demonstrating how to make various tools and even attempting an iron boar in our upcoming videos.
